Don has been practicing in the field of family law since his call to the bar in 2012, and he brings those years of expertise to bear in assisting his clients today with the variety of issues that arise at various points in their relationships.
Don assists his clients through exchanges of disclosure, negotiation, and mediation, with reviewing and extending proposals, and with reviewing or preparing contracts to codify agreements. Where matters are not resolved by agreement, Don is an experienced litigator who has appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, and Court of Appeal in addition to private arbitrations.
Don does some of his best work faced with challenging cases and circumstances, including high conflict separations, international child abduction, income imputation in cases involving self-employment and personally held corporations, unravelling of complex financial circumstances, and dealing with bad faith litigants. Unofficially (and perhaps with an asterisk that it was split three-ways) we believe Don currently holds the record for the largest punitive damages award in Canadian history on any case, let alone on a family matter.
Don brings a common-sense and no-nonsense approach. He will guide you with an expert hand to reach resolutions where they can be reached, and he will resolutely and capably argue your case on your behalf if they cannot.
On a personal note, Don enjoys traveling, spending time with his wife and two dogs (ask for pictures and he will share them), and dominating low-stakes fantasy sports leagues.
